Renhong Yan
Dr. Renhong Yan is an Associate Professor and Principal Investigator at the School of Medicine, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), where he established his independent research group in November 2021. He received his Ph.D. in 2019 from the School of Life Sciences, Tsinghua University, under the supervision of Professor Nieng Yan, and subsequently carried out postdoctoral research with Professor Yigong Shi at Westlake University.
Dr. Yan’s research mainly focused on the structural and mechanistic understanding of membrane transport proteins and their implications for drug discovery. Over the past several years, he has made pioneering contributions to elucidating the molecular mechanisms of transporters using biochemistry and structural biology approaches.
Before establishing his laboratory, Dr. Yan made seminal discoveries as first or co-first author, publishing multiple high-impact papers in Cell, Nature, and Science. Since becoming an independent investigator, his group has continued to produce influential work, with corresponding-author publications in Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, Nature Communications (three papers), and Science Advances (four papers), among others. His research has been cited over 9,000 times (Google Scholar), reflecting his impact in the field of structural biology. Dr. Yan has been recognized as an Elsevier Highly Cited Chinese Researcher for three consecutive years (2022–2024).
