Rebekah Munro
First year Master of Philosophy (Molecular and Biomedical Science) student at the University of Adelaide, under the supervision of Dr Blagojce Jovcevski and Prof. Tara Pukala. My research investigates repurposing food and agricultural waste streams as sources of bioactive molecules for therapeutic applications. Specifically, my project investigates bioactive compounds extracted from brewer's spent grain as modulators of protein aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and MND. Using tools such as native mass spectrometry and fluorescent probes, I study the way that these compounds can alter protein conformational dynamics to inhibit cytotoxic aggregation.
